Strong customer relationships and functioning payment processes are crucial to succeed in the European expansion of Chinese companies. As Chinese exporters increasingly grant open credit terms to European buyers, the complexity of receivables and risk management is growing – especially when entering new markets or working with new customers. Even with reliable business partners and long-standing relationships, things can go wrong and invoices may remain unpaid or be paid very late. Everyone involved in cross-border trade has a key interest in delivering goods and getting paid on time – or in making sure that any potential nonpayment is covered by appropriate trade credit insurance and/or factoring.

Setting up a protection and financing structure for receivables without gaps in coverage, while keeping flexibility for growth, can be a challenge in international trade. So called trade credit insurance and factoring solutions are the tools to bridge the gap between the legal claim to payment and the full potential financial loss caused by a customer’s nonpayment.

In our workshop, we will focus on the challenges in Sino‑German and Sino‑European trade by covering the following topics:

  • The different solutions related to receivables and credit risk
  • Deep dive: protection provided under Trade Credit Insurance
  • Claim examples and case studies where European buyers did not pay and how insurance/factoring helped to reduce the loss
  • Current developments and challenges in the European credit insurance market
  • Financing and improving liquidity through Factoring – current practices and case studies
